Concept build — Fictional brand — no client results claimed

Blackridge Custom Homes

We needed something to point at that was ours, so we built a complete site for a builder that does not exist. Everything on it — art direction, type, motion, the inquiry flow, the accessibility work — is the standard we build client sites to.

About this build

Blackridge Custom Homes is a fictional client. We built this in-house to show the standard we design and build to, so there is something concrete to judge us on. It was never a client engagement and carried no real traffic.

Blackridge Custom Homes homepage: a dark architectural photograph with the headline “Homes without compromise.” set in a large serif.

The problem

A builder in this bracket is judged on the same things their clients judge a house on: proportion, materials, restraint and finish. Most builder sites are a photo gallery with a phone number, which quietly tells a $2M client that the business is not in their bracket.

What we did

  1. 01

    Editorial over brochure

A serif display face, real hierarchy and generous negative space, so the site reads like a monograph rather than a listing. Photography is given room instead of being cropped into cards.

  2. 02

    The inquiry is the product

The inquiry flow is a multi-step overlay with inline validation, real loading and error states, focus trapping and restoration, and a keyboard path that works end to end. That flow is the only thing on the site that has to work perfectly.

  3. 03

    Motion that is not decoration

Scroll drives a build-drawing that assembles as you read about the process. Everything else stays still, which is what makes the one moving thing register.

  4. 04

Built to the same standard as a client site

Reduced-motion support throughout, semantic structure, visible focus, and a capture harness that screenshots every breakpoint so the design is reviewed as pixels rather than as intentions.

Three real breakpoints

The same page captured at 1600, 834 and 390 pixels. The mobile layout is not the desktop one scaled down — different type scale, different crop, different order.

The Blackridge homepage at desktop width, with navigation, a full-bleed photograph and a two-line serif headline.
1600 px
The same Blackridge homepage at tablet width, with the headline reflowed and the image cropped taller.
834 px
The same Blackridge homepage on a phone, with a condensed header, a taller image crop and the practice details stacked.
780 px

Measurement

Baseline phase — measurement is underway. Results get published here once there is enough real data behind them to make the comparison mean something, with the date range and the method attached so you can check the arithmetic yourself.

Free custom website demo

You have already seen
what we can build.

Now see what we would build for you.

We build a custom demo of your new website — using your real business, services and reputation — and you decide whether you want it finished.

  • A custom homepage concept built around your actual business
  • Your services, your area, your reputation — not placeholder text
  • Designed mobile-first, so you see it the way your customers will
  • A walkthrough of what we changed and why
  • No payment to see it, and no obligation afterwards

If the work does not make the case, do not hire us.

No payment is required to request a demo, and there is no obligation to buy. We build demos for a limited number of businesses at a time, so every request is reviewed before we start — if we are not the right fit, we will say so rather than waste your time.
